Beginning your review of 1 Kingdom: Our Lives with Animals
I have to preface this review by saying how much of an animal lover I am! Of course I had to cull a book all about how humans interact with our animal friends. One Kingdom: Our Lives with Animals goes through the history of human/animal relationships from mythology to legends to gimmicky eras and our lives today. The material is presented in such a lovely fashion; it reads more like well-crafted literature than the standard non-fiction books, just withal has enough of factual information.

I have to preface this review by proverb how much of an animal lover I am! Of course I had to cull a book all about how humans collaborate with our creature friends. One Kingdom: Our Lives with Animals goes through the history of human/animal relationships from mythology to legends to contemporary eras and our lives today. The textile is presented in such a lovely way; it reads more than like well-crafted literature than the standard non-fiction books, just still has plenty of factual data.As a reader, I appreciated the way and voice from beginning to cease. It was nearly poetic, which reinforced the harmonic mood I felt between humans and animals. Brilliant! And the photographs were stunning -- works of art on their own! I was learning historical information without feeling lectured; this is far from a textbook.
That said, teachers should catch a copy of this book for their classrooms ASAP. The class and structure of this book, if broken down and seen equally an essay, can be a model for expository or non-fiction research. Globe History and Science akin can be bridged into an English classroom via
One Kingdom since so many content areas are covered here. This book is rather interesting and does a wonderful task of explaining how the homo race interacts with dissimilar animals throughout time. Information technology explains how Egyptians worshiped cats and considered them sacred and would mummify them when they died, but how unlike religions afterward on thought of cats as demons that would suck the soul right out of a person. In the second part it explains how modern day animals are kept in zoos for enjoyment, and domesticated animals are spoiled past their owners.Every bit a reader, I really liked how it should how many dissimilar animals were revered and feared throughout time and information technology included all types of animals, from birds to furry creatures.
Equally a teacher, I think this would exist a great book to employ for some type of history lesson where you examine the relationship growth between people and animals, from the hunting and gather days, to modern days where information technology is slaughterhouses or people spoiling their pets.
Overall, the volume was entertaining and informative then I would say information technology would be a skillful resource in a classroom.

The real depth of the volume comes when Noyes urges usa to not gauge animals and their abilities in relation to our own, only rather to stride into their shoes (or flippers) and run into what we could have washed with what they were given. It was a very well-written and intriguing look into a world that fascinates us all.
This book was very remarkable to me, nonetheless it was something I tin't picture most teens running out to read. It was a nonfiction book that read equally a nonfiction book. I learned a lot and parts were very interesting, just the fact is that it wasn't quite interesting enough to become anything more than something interesting a science instructor could read parts of aloud in form.

Here is a book for anyone who loves and is fascinated by animals. Deborah Noyes is a photographer and a zookeeper. She looks at the connections between animals and people through history, mythology, legends and science. The second half of the volume looks at new and innovative ways that humans can larn from and relate to animals. This book is full of beautiful blackness and white photos and is really nicely designed. The text is likewise beautifully written, almost like poetry (the story of the Selkie in Here is a book for anyone who loves and is fascinated by animals. Deborah Noyes is a photographer and a zookeeper. She looks at the connections between animals and people through history, mythology, legends and science. The 2nd half of the book looks at new and innovative ways that humans can learn from and relate to animals. This book is full of cute black and white photos and is really nicely designed. The text is also beautifully written, about similar poetry (the story of the Selkie in the introduction for instance), in a way that non-fiction books rarely are. I like information technology. I especially like the ending and the showtime and how they interconnect with themselves and the middle of the book. If you go to the young adult section of the Arlington Canton VA Fundamental library to find non-fiction books, you will be much happier with your findings. I really enjoyed this volume, and would highly recomend it equally a High-low book for teens or adults. The writting is excellent, but simple and basic. Information technology is in parts a history book and in office a thoughtful meditation on the topic of animals and humans. Different the other teen not-fiction I read, this was an essay, that should be read through from beginning to stop for best comprehension. It was a very quick read--I spent near an hour with it. The photographs are excellent, simply understated in black and I actually enjoyed this book, and would highly recomend it equally a High-low book for teens or adults. I read this volume outloud to my kids about a year agone, when they were xiii and seven. The pictures are beautiful, and would concord the interests of whatever historic period. The writing is thoughtful, and full of interesting facts. My 13 twelvemonth old initially rolled her eyes at sitting downwards and reading with united states, but soon enjoyed the sessions. I recently re-skimmed the book, and prose and pictures however agree their beauty.
Noyes examines the ways our lives have overlapped with animals and how the human-animal bond has affected our civilisation. Teens who loves animals and particularly those with an interest in animal rights will find Noyes' provocative book both fascinating and compelling. I was really surprised when I read this volume. It is full of data I did not already know. It's interesting, thoughtful and insightful. this is a wonderful book to e'er have around. expert for YA and adults. The writer is also the photographer.
once the 2nd part of the book began i enjoyed it immensely simply through the beginning office of the book it lagged for me. the photographs are beautiful.
i feel this is a beautiful, interesting, great book. the pictures solitary are astonishing, then the unlike myths explained, the science and stories noted, well i loved information technology all. :)
